Driven by our passion for enabling user aspirations, 30 years of Magic Mobility innovation have established us as a world leader in developing go-anywhere powerchairs tailored to fit our users’ life choices.

Ashley Daff co-founded Magic Mobility in 1994, applying his prosthetics and orthotics training to design new ways for wheelchair users to do more of what they want in life. Thirty years on, and Ashley continues to inspire this core purpose as Magic Mobility’s Director of Research and Development, always striving for new ways to enhance users’ quality of life and expand their everyday horizons.

From the start, Ash’s passion for adventurous outdoor activities led him to design powerchairs that can go off-road, enabling people to relax in nature, be with family and friends and work wherever they need to. Magic’s first 4×4 chair was called the Extreme Force, which immediately gained a reputation for performance, robustness and quality. Fifteen years on from launching the now world-famous Extreme X8, our latest 4×4 powerchair – the XT4 – has evolved into what is arguably the world’s most technically advanced off-road powerchair in a relatively compact, urban-sized footprint.

Additional to our bases that take users wherever they want to go, we also design and develop seating, positioning and cushioning solutions, controls and other functional features and accessories that enable people to be as independent and capable as possible to pursue their dreams and lifestyle choices. These innovations begin with listening to people talk about what they want to be able to do, and what might be holding them back. The way we learn about what enhancements people need is just as important as coming up with the technical solutions to meet those needs.

While Magic Mobility started out customising many of the parts required to meet individuals’ specific needs, the innovation process has also been about making tailored solutions more configurable by designing standard, modular options with adjustable features. From tilt-in-space seating to powered leg rests, multiple joystick mounting options to a variety of postural support options, each Magic chair can now be personalised to meet individual users’ clinical needs and functional goals.

Magic Mobility’s first powerchairs immediately gained a reputation for performance, robustness and quality.

Our innovation journey continues. Now, with the world’s most versatile indoor/outdoor, off-road capable powerchair, the Magic 360, and our widest-ranging outdoor cruiser yet, the XT2, we are constantly looking to adapt and evolve our products as new battery, electronic and material technologies are developed. Magic Mobility will always continue to push the boundaries of our wheelchairs’ range, safety, comfort and controls to expand users’ life choices in a world that’s not flat.
